Our interview process

How we hire

We pride ourselves on having a high bar for hiring and seek out the best talent. We believe that endless rounds of interviews are unnecessary, and like to move fast with candidates we’re excited about.

The interview process at Playground varies based on role and candidate, but our standard process looks like this:

Step 1

Submit your resume

Submit your resume via our job listing

Step 2

Exploratory chat

An introductory 15 minute phone call with someone on our team to discuss your career interests & relevant experience, and learn more about Playground.

Step 3

Skills assessment

An interview with someone on the team you’d be working on, digging deeper into your experience and technical skills.

Step 4

Day in office

The final part of our interview process is a paid, on-site interview in our Soho, NYC office. We treat you like a member of the Playground team for a day and ask you to do the real work you’d be doing if hired. Get to know our team, in-office culture, and see for yourself why you should join Playground.

We recognize that completing work assignments requires time and effort, and that they are not perfectly reflective of the role’s work. Nonetheless, we think that work tests are a useful complement to interviews and reference checks.

We include this step to reduce bias and make more informed hiring decisions. Reviewing a candidate’s work allows us to better gauge how they might perform in the role, while the assignment also gives candidates a clearer sense of the type of work they can expect at Playground. If a candidate enjoys the task, it’s a good sign they would find the role fulfilling, and if not, it may suggest a mismatch.

Step 5

Final checks

We’ll ask for some references

Step 6

Offer

We'll make you an offer!
