Two family-owned centers north of Pittsburgh
The Learning Village has served families in western Pennsylvania since 2007. It is family-owned by Melanie and Richard Merten, who are regularly on site, and runs two locations: Deer Creek Road in Saxonburg and Brickyard Road in Mars.
Both centers are open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Diapers, pull-ups, and wipes are provided for children up to age 3, and each center has fenced, turfed playgrounds split by age.
Frog Street and learning through play
The Learning Village uses the research-based Frog Street curriculum alongside a play-based, hands-on approach. Every classroom has learning centers, such as art, transportation, and housekeeping, where children choose their own activities.
Classrooms are grouped as infants (6 weeks to 12 months), young toddlers (1–2), older toddlers (2–3), preschool (3–4), Pre-K (4–5), and school age (5–12).
Ages served: 6 weeks through 12 years.
Quality rating
The Learning Village holds a Keystone STARS 2 rating in Pennsylvania’s quality rating system.
